A special thank you to our Do Good with Food collaborating partners, the Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) and Milwaukee Kitchen Cabinet. The Milwaukee Kitchen Cabinet is a subcommittee of the WRA. The organization is a group of restaurateurs who are committed to growing and showcasing the work done by the restaurant industry to strengthen the communities where they live and work.
In 2019, Do Good With Food began as a way for Gino and Leanne Fazzari, grateful parents and local restaurateurs, to give back to the hospital that saved their daughter’s life.
Upon bringing Vivianna home, the Fazzaris noticed several troubling signs. After numerous calls to the birthing hospital with no answers, the Fazzari’s took matters into their own hands. On day five, they rushed her to Children’s Emergency Department and Trauma Center. When they arrived, she was no longer breathing and without a pulse. Vivianna was quickly resuscitated, put on a ventilator and admitted to the NICU, where she spent 27 days recovering from rare complication from the birth process. “If it had not been for the quick thinking and highly-skilled team working that day, our daughter would not be here with us today,” shared Leanne. “Few emergency departments without notice, time to prepare, or proper diagnosis can save a fully coded newborn baby.”
Do Good With Food takes place every August to commemorate Vivianna’s birthday and support the departments that saved her, the neonatal intensive care unit and emergency department.
Over the past six community-wide fundraisers, Do Good With Food has raised more than $288,000 for Children’s.
